ams-OSRAM (Swiss Stock Exchange: AMS), the world's leading optical solutions provider, recently announced the launch of innovative QR code product innovation technology, aiming to help automotive lighting module and system manufacturers increase production capacity and production efficiency while ensuring a high degree of consistency in optical quality and performance.


Data Matrix Code (DMC) is an innovative technology that prints a unique machine-readable code on the surface of each LED package. At present, DMC technology has been used in some products of ams OSIRE® series automotive LEDs. The QR code on the package corresponds to specific data for each LED production unit, including color coordinates, light intensity and forward voltage under dual current settings.


This dual-current setup provides manufacturers with the widest range of dimming options to flexibly adapt to day and night lighting modes while meeting the automotive industry's stringent color point stability requirements.

ams-OSRAM has successfully enhanced the value of its automotive LED products by introducing QR code technology. This technology provides hard data to digitize and automate factory processes. Currently, there are three automotive-grade LED products equipped with this advanced technology:

  • OSIRE® E5515 is an RGB "side-emitting" LED designed for ambient lighting in modern automotive interiors.OSIRE® E5515 is available in a white low profile surface mount package ideal for coupling to compact light guides. In addition, its housing material has been optimized for higher temperature stability, thereby improving compatibility with the IMSE® (In-Mold Structural Electronics) process. This product can be ordered under part number KRTB AELPS2.32.

  • OSIRE® E3323 is an RGB top-emitting LED specially designed for automotive interior ambient lighting.With an ultra-small size of only 3.3mm × 2.3mm × 0.7mm, it is the most compact product in the OSIRE® series and achieves a more flexible design than existing triangular or straight-line RGB chip configurations. This product can be ordered under part number KRTB DWLM31.32 or KRTB DWLM32.32.


ams and Osram will print a QR code on each LED, and manufacturers can choose whether to use these data based on actual needs. Thereafter, this value-added feature is likely to be rolled out to other products in the OSIRE® range.
